Services: Commissions

This gallery shows pictures from three different commissions: the first a documentation of medieval carvings; the second photography for a cookery book; and the third a commission for an installation in the head offices of North Tyneside Council. The first was a recent and very challenging commission. These marvellous carvings, most of them in shadow and barely visible to the naked eye, are to be found high up in the north and south transept roofs of Hexham Abbey in Northumberland. Most are of human figures, some semi-human and some mythological. THe reason for their carving remains a mystery. My task was to bring these remarkable and very characterful carvings to the attention of the general public, and provide the abbey authorities with a high quality record of each carving. For the cookery book the author required high definition black and white photography for maximum impact. The work was done with large format equipment between 80 and 100 years old to maximize tonal values. Subsequently the work, as well as illustrating the book, was displayed in her restaurant. In 2010, in collaboration with the artist Alison Best, a body of work was produced entitled 'Ice: Beyond the Edge'. Some examples of my work in situ are shown here.
